New music artist, Spoat, originally born Leroy Hunt Jr, was born October 14, 1986 in a small home in Miami, Florida. His mother Dawn Perneil and father Leroy Hunt Sr., always knew he was musically inclined as a child. Rapping was instilled in Spoat’s life as a child. Growing up Spoat was inspired by various artist including Jay Z, Hot Boyz, 2 Pac and several other artist. In his early teens Spoat would watch the television show “Making the Band”, and this was the first time he came in contact with actually seeing the process of a star being created. This sparked an interest in him, which would begin his journey to become a star himself.
In 9th grade, Spoat’s friends began to recognize his talents and by the time he got into the 10th grade he was known as rapper on the playgrounds. He began recording songs at a local studio not far from home. In the 11th grade Spoat took advantage of the opportunity to put together a mixtape, and by the following year he was known for his music and began to take the art form more seriously. By the age of 17 the young artist had already created a small buzz throughout Hollywood Liberia, Dade County and also his school, South Broward High.
Life was not always easy for Spoat. Stemming from his mother’s continuous drug use, he moved around a lot. There were several times that he had no where to stay, and this led to the path of selling drugs. “I had to use the Hustle to get buy, but it is my struggles that has fed my musical content. The struggle has shown me that I had things in common with other artist. It has allowed me to openly speak about my life.”
Spoat First came in contact with the Poe Boy Family when he was introduced to Johnny Boy. When he played his demo for the executives of Poe Boy Entertainment Music group, they enjoyed his musical talents but didn’t think he was quite ready yet to be a star. This did not stop Spoat from attaining his dreams.
He began to travel the country creating various mixtapes, recording with artist such as Brisco, C-ride and Ball Greezy. In 2008 along with his team Spoat made many Attempts at getting a record deal. He eventually put together another demo and took another chance with Poe Boy Entertainment Music Group. This time he Blew E Class also Johnny Boy away with his new sounds and creative rhythms. As of today, Spoat is the newest member of Poe Boy Music Group. As a youngster his goals and ambitions were to become a icon in this industry. When asked, “What artist would you compare yourself to?” Spoat replied, “ Nobody, I like to be the person they compare themselves too.”
